AVAILABILITY

This policy is available to anyone (including members of the public) who has requested a copy of the White Homewares Pty Ltd trading as The White Linen Company (TWLC) Privacy Policy.

SCOPE

TWLC is bound by and complies with the National Privacy Principals (NPP’s) which set the standards for how organisations in the private sector should collect, use, disclose, hold and give access to personal information. The NPP’s form part of the Privacy Act 1988.

This policy only applies in relation to "personal information" (as defined in the Privacy Act 1988) collected by TWLC. In summary, ‘personal information’ is information or an opinion relating to an individual which can be used to identify that individual. It does not apply to information concerning companies and other business entities.

PERSONAL INFORMATION COLLECTED BY TWLC

TWLC may collect or already hold personal information about you as a result of information that you have provided to TWLC and/or your business dealings with TWLC, including:

• other information which will assist TWLC in conducting its business, including the provision and marketing of its products and services.

There are a variety of reasons why TWLC is required to hold this information including contractual obligations and to comply with various legislative requirements. TWLC may also collect this information to conduct its business include to provide and market its products and services.

TWLC endeavours to ensure that any personal information collected is accurate, up to date and complete. In order to achieve this, TWLC maintains and updates personal information upon receipt of advice that such personal information has changed.

HOW TWLC HANDLES PERSONAL INFORMATION

When you provide us with your personal information you are consenting to TWLC’s use of that information in accordance with the principles set out in this Privacy Policy.

Except where your consent has been provided, your personal information will only be used for the primary purpose for which it is collected. We may expressly communicate this purpose to you or it may be clear from the nature of our dealings with you.

TWLC may disclose or transfer your personal information where necessary to corporations who are "related" to TWLC (as defined in the Corporations Act) and in some circumstances those organisations will be international entities. We will not communicate your personal information to an international entity that is not bound by privacy obligations equivalent to or more stringent than the NPP’s.

TWLC may also disclose or transfer your personal information to other companies or individuals who assist us in providing products or services or who perform functions on our behalf (such as direct marketing companies, mailing houses, consultants, credit providers and service providers). We also collect personal information from these organisations and individuals, and deal with that information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Except as required by law and subject to the above exception, TWLC will not disclose your personal information to any other party without your consent.

Access to any personal information held about you is restricted to those persons who need to know that information in order to carry out the task for which the information was collected.

Information we collect

TWLC may collect the following information for marketing purposes to identify the most useful and popular sections of this site and to generally improve this site:

• your server address;
• domain name;
• the date and time of your visit to the site;
• the pages viewed and information downloaded;
• the previous site visited; and
• the type of browser used.

No attempt will be made to identify users by their browsing activities.

Indirect Collection of Personal Information

Where possible, we attempt to collect personal information about an individual solely from that individual, however, at times we may be supplied with personal information by a third party. If you supply us with personal information in relation to another person, we require that you advise the person that you have done so.

E-mail management

Where we seek responses from you for site feedback, press enquiries and business development, this may involve you giving us your e-mail address. Your e-mail address will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it. You will be given the option to receive e-mails relating to this site or our products and services and each e-mail sent will give you the option to unsubscribe.

Cookies

Cookies are uniquely numbered identification numbers like tags which are placed on your browser. By themselves cookies do not identify you personally, but they may link back to a database record about you. If you register on any of our sites we may, in some cases, link your cookie back to your personal identification details. However, some TWLC sites do not use cookies to determine the identity of users and once you have left the site, the cookies are deleted and no record is kept of them. Each TWLC site contains a privacy statement which advises users of the ways in which cookies are applied.

All TWLC sites utilise cookies to monitor usage of the web site, to enable purchases, to create a personal record of when you visit our web site and what pages you view and sometimes to customise the web site for faster use.

Personal information

Should you decide to respond to any of the interactive facilities on the web sites you may be asked to provide some of the following types of personal information:

• country of residence;
• e-mail address; and
• telephone number.

Subject to obtaining your consent, this information will only be used and/or disclosed for the primary purpose of collection. If the information is not provided by you we may not be able to provide the services requested.

Consent

By giving us your personal information on the site you are consenting to our use of this information in accordance with the principles in this Privacy Policy. Any changes to this Privacy Policy will be posted on this site.

The circumstances under which we will disclose information about you

It is our policy not to sell or pass on any personal information that you may have provided to us to third parties (other than those third parties identified under the heading ‘How TWLC Handles Personal Information’ in this Privacy Policy) unless we have your express consent to do so (subject to the exception under the NPP’s for “related corporations”). Another exception is where TWLC is required by law to disclose certain information.

TWLC is not responsible for the privacy policy of any other site to which any of our web sites has a hyper link.
